it's all fine and dandy with people telling me what i need i know exactly ! Ive sorted it now, needed a different type of sync lead If the latter, then one of the connectors (cable or camera) has been damaged.

Is it that the PC connector (on the left in your photo) won't seat, or will it not stay on? If the former, then you need a gender changing cable. I assume your SQ-A has a typical PC sync socket (like my GS-1). What are the connections on your sync chord and what is the connection on the 285? I just found my synch cord for the Viv 285 and it doesn't fit my Bronica SQ-A.any suggestions guys? The V285 is not a high trigger voltage flash, requiring less than 8V. I know of no flash where the trigger voltage was too high for any film camera. PC sync for sure, and hot shoe if you have one. Would I be able to use my Vivitar 285 with the Bronica SQ-A? My ETRSi works nicely with both Pocket Wizards and Cactus V4 triggers on the shoe of the speed grip - not tested them connected to the PC socket but I can't see why there'd be a difference. Mark I 430ex doesn't have a PC sync socket, but an inexpensive adapter can solve that and they're easily acquired. Not sure if all do this though, it might just be mine that does this. I have yet to test whether this second flash contributes to the exposure. I've used a radio trigger before, with OK-ish results, but I found (on my SQB) that as I started to use slower shutter speeds the flash would go off twice - at the start and the end of the exposure. Just make sure you have a way to connect the sync cable to your flash, as I don't think the 430 has a PC connection on it. I think most of the options have been covered already.

Bare in mind, you have to use the flash in manual mode. I use the sync cable or if I have the Speed Grip installed, you can mount a flash on top of that. Your call, the operation procedure is identical.

Once you've done that set the manual power on your flash and you're good to go.Īlternately you can replace the PC cord with the ISO shoe on a Speed Grip. If you don't have the Speed Grip for your SQ you'll need a PC cable to connect them. You'll need to have an SCA-compatible flash and adaptor to use TTL-OTF Flash AE with Bronica SLR cameras that support it (I think only the ETRSi, SQ-Ai, and GS-1). Bronica made TTL compatible strobes and I believe some compatible units were also made by Metz, but otherwise your Canon or another strobe will be unable to use TTL metering. Like the ETRsi, I believe the SQ-A speed grip also has a hot shoe that will take any regular strobe. It syncs at all speeds, so you don't have to worry about keeping the shutter below a certain speed. I shoot with my ETRsi using an older model Sunpak flash gun connected by a sync cable. Is the best option to buy just a sync cable and have that running from the flash into the Bronica? Has anyone had any experiences with combining an SQ-A with a flashgun? I have used the Bronica in the studio quite a few times but that was with dedicated lights etc. I would ultimately like to use the two together. I own a Bronica SQ-A and have borrowed a Canon 430EX flash gun.
